HOW TO APPLY

THE 2021 NATIONAL FINALS WILL BE HELD VIRTUALLY

This approach is new for our competition, forced upon us to protect our competitors and the Webster staff in these times of COVID-19.  Your Webster Team is working hard to provide an interesting and challenging competition as we continue our annual search for Canada’s Top General Aviation Pilot.

As in past years, national finalists will be chosen from the overall group of applicants.  This selection will be based on performance on a licensing flight test (or Webster equivalent) and an examination created by NAV CANADA dealing with topics relating to pilot-controller interaction such as: airport operations, communications, and airspace.

Applying to the Webster Trophy Competition:

For this year, flight tests will be accepted if they have been completed on or before 15 June 2021 and on or after 15 June 2019.  The flight test must have been conducted by a Pilot Examiner authorized by Transport Canada to conduct licensing flight tests for a Private or Commercial Pilot Licence and must be either:

    • a Private or Commercial Pilot flight test, or
    • a flight test using the Webster flight test report form.

Applicants holding a Private or Commercial pilot licence may submit the licensing flight test conducted for the issuance of their licence (providing it was conducted within the required time period) or they may choose to undergo an additional test specifically for their Webster application.

Applicants enrolled in an Integrated Course of Commercial Pilot Training in which Navigation skill is assessed separately from the final Commercial Pilot flight test, will need to submit the report of the Navigation skill assessment in addition to the report of the licensing flight test.

Applicants holding a Pilot Permit Recreational are welcome to apply for the Webster Trophy Competition; however, the licensing flight test completed for the pilot permit cannot be used to apply for the Webster regional flight test.  These applicants will need to contact a Pilot Examiner and arrange to undergo a flight test that meets the requirements of the Webster regional flight test.

Applicants choosing the option of a Webster flight test will need to:

    • contact the Webster Administrator (administrator@webstertrophy.ca) to obtain a copy of the Webster flight test report form, and
    • make arrangements with a Transport Canada Pilot Examiner to conduct the Webster flight test.

For the purpose of verifying results and avoiding situations in which flight test reports may have been altered or are otherwise unreadable, applicants must provide written permission for the Webster Administrator or representative to contact either the Pilot Examiner (in the case of applicants submitting a Webster Flight Test) or Transport Canada (in the case of applicants submitting a Transport Canada licensing flight test) and receive a copy of the original flight test report directly.

Documents to be submitted in your application

    1. The completed application form
    2. A copy of a recent flight test report form
    3. Evidence of payment of the application fee

Early in 2021, applicants will be invited to complete an on-line examination.

YOUR APPLICATION FORM, FLIGHT TEST REPORT FORM, RESULTS OF THE ON-LINE EXAMINATION, FEE AND ALL OTHER APPLICATION MATERIAL MUST ALL BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT JUNE 15, 2021.
